This is The Land Of Wanderlust’s blueprint to a backpacking trip around Parvati Valley & Parashar Lake in Himachal Pradesh for seven days.

  • Food
  • Travel to New Delhi
  1. Day 1 New Delhi
    • Board local HRTC AC bus from ISBT Kashmiri Gate New Delhi to Mandi at 19:30 HRS.
  2. Day 2 Kasol
    • Reach Mandi at 7:30 HRS and post breakfast head to the pristine Parashar Lake.
    • Return back to Mandi by 11:30 HRS and board a local bus to Kasol. (90km = 4 hours)
    • Reach Kasol around 15:30 HRS and check into a guest house.
    • Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the River Parvati after a long journey.
  3. Day 3 Pulga
    • Board a bus to Bharsheni which is a 3 hours bumpy bus ride.
    • Hike from Bharsheni to the village of Pulga. (40 minutes hike)
    • Chill around in the mystic Fairy Forest and explore the woods.
    • Spend the night in a wooden guest house in the village. 
  4. Day 4 Kheerganga
    • Around 09:00 HRS, start the hike to Kheer Ganga which is a 5 to 6 hour hike.
    • Spend night in dormitories and take a dip in the natural sulphur hot spring. (No coverage)
  5. Day 5 Yolo Camping
    • Post breakfast, hike back to Bharsheni and board a bus to Yolo Camping. 
    • Reach Yolo camping by 12:00 HRS and check into the guest house.
  6. Day 6 Kullu/New Delhi
    • Last day in the Himalayas do what you what.
    • Chill by the River or read a book.
    • Pack up and board a bus from Kasol to Kullu at 17:00 HRS.
    • Board a HRTC AC from Kullu to New Delhi by 19:30 HRS.
  7. Day 7 New Delhi
Essentials to carry

Stick to the list given below and you’ll have a smooth backpacking trip.

Travelling gear:

  • A rucksack of a minimum 60L.(mandatory{No other kind of bag will be allowed on the trip}
  • A day pack to move around with ease.(must have)
  • A camera with a minimum of 8GB, a spare battery s good to carry along.(optional)
  • Sleeping bag. (If camping is in the blueprint)
  • Carrying a one liter water bottle along is a great thing for every person who hits the road in the Himalayas.(must have)
  • A backpack rain cover.(optional)
  • Hiking Pole. (optional)

Clothing:

  • One cotton long sleeves and two short sleeve T-shirts or shirts. Avoid carrying new T-shirts as clothes get faded easily there.
  • Two short pants and two long pants. Cargo pants are favorable due to multiple pockets and their quick dry quality. Please avoid carrying jeans.
  • Four sets of undergarments and three sets of socks. Please avoid white socks.
  • One thick sweatshirt.(must have)
  • Gloves are optional and can be purchased there as well in case the need arises.(optional)
  • UV protected sun glares. (must have)
  • Cap
  • A half towel is preferred to a full size one as it saves on space in the bag pack.
  • A pair of shoes that are comfortable and have a good grip. Anklets are preferable.(must have)
  • Slippers or flip-flops.(must have)
  • Rain sheet.(can be purchased on the trip)

Personal:

  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, soap bars, shampoo sachets or small bottles of shampoo.
  • Toilet roll.(must have)
  • Paper soap, hand sanitizer, detergent soap sachets.
  • Sun screen with a minimum of 40 SPF, lip balm and cold cream should be carried along.(must have)
  • Body sprays are also good, but glass bottled perfumes are better kept at home.
  • Two thin bed-sheets.(must have)

Accessories:

  • Power board to charge multiple gadgets is a must as most lodging and boarding places have only one plug point.(must have)
  • A 3 meter nylon rope proves to be very handy as it can be used to dry clothes and to tie things along the way.(optional)
  • A LED torch and a box of candles along with a lighter is a safe carry along choice as the lights tend to go out rather often in the Himalayas.(must have)
  • Ten garbage bags to carry dirty clothes while travelling is good to have. These also help to junk the trash and keep the natural setting clean and green.(must have)
  • A small knife while on the road is a safety measure that is advised.(optional)
  • 10,000mah power bank. (Must have)

Medical:

  • Glucose powder.(must have)
  • Tablets for headaches, diarrhea, motion and altitude sickness.
  • Bandage.
  • Cotton.
  • Aspirin.
  • Medication for rashes.
  • Carrying at least 20 cold and throat relief lozenges proves to be a boon on the trip.(must have)
  • Sprain relief plasters.
  • Any personal medication that you have been advised by your doctor.(must have)

Parvati Valley is situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.

Yes, Parvati Valley is an extremely safe place to travel to.

Yes, there is cell phone coverage in Parvati and Tirthan Valley. BSNL, Jio, Airtel and Vodafone mobile connections work. Jio and Airtel are the best.

Yes, Jio and Airtel have best 3G/4G network.

Around 60 minutes prior to the departure of the bus is a good time to reach ISBT Kashmiri Gate.

-From the airport take a direct AC bus which leaves every 30 minutes. Good options if you want to avoid the metro rush.
-Take a shuttle bus to the airport metro and then an express metro to New Delhi and finally take the yellow line to Kashmiri Gate. (Fastest way to reach ISBT)

At ISBT Kashmiri Gate, the platform no. for the bus to Bhuntar/ Mandi needs to be inquired at the HRTC inquiry counter. There will be no announcement made when the bus departs.

Our TLOW representative will meet you at HRTC bus station in Bhuntar/ Mandi.

You won’t be alone, you’ll be with the rest of the group and our Whatsapp group which is made 36-40 hours before the start of the trip will be used as the platform to co-ordinate.

We will be using homestays and guest houses all along the trip.

Since no one in the world likes to keep their home untidy, it’s safe to say that every place we stay at will be clean and will give you a homely feel.

Yes, at every place we stay at you’ll get a blanket, a pillow and if not a bed then surely a mattress to sleep on.

Every guest house and homestay we stay at will have geysers so you’ll surely get to have a bath at least once a day.

It will be girls in a separate room and boys in a separate room, for all those backpacking solo.

Since this is a backpacking trip we want to leave the eating for you’ll to explore on your own. You’ll never go hungry in Parvati and Tirthan Valley.

Not needed. Every place we stay at will have a cafe.

 

In Kasol, Tosh you’ll get everything from pizzas to Israeli cuisine. While in other regions, you get maggi, parathas and the basic rajma dal (kidney beans) rice, pickle, mix vegetables, rotis with some local chicken curry.

Yes you can cook in our camping site at YOLO. Provided you make the time.

 

The only way to avoid altitude sickness is to rest well, keep yourself hydrated and have plenty of water.

Consulting your local physician is the best for motion sickness.

Yes. Kullu, Jari have hospitals.

While in Parvati and Tirthan Valley, we will be using a combination of multiple modes of transportation.

HRTC state transport semi deluxe bus.

 

There is only one airport in Kullu. Although located in Bhuntar, it is known as Kullu airport.

 

Kheerganga is a 14 km trek from Barshaini. It is a moderate trek.

Kasol – 5184 ft.
Pulga – 9498 ft.
Tosh – 7900 ft.
Kheerganga – 9711 ft.
Malana – 8701 ft.

The weather in Himachal is very unpredictable. It is always safe to carry a poncho.
