  1. Day One New Delhi

    – Arrive in New Delhi by 17:30 HRS.

    – Board an AC HRTC bus from ISBT New Delhi to Mandi at 20:30 HRS.

  2. Day Two Old Manali

    – Reach Mandi by 08:30 HRS

    – Hop into a 14- seater tempo traveller to Old Manali.

    – Reach Old Manali by noon.

    – Check into our guest house for the night.

    – Spend the rest of the evening at leisure. 

  3. Day Three Losar

    – Leave early in the morning by 05:30 HRS for the town of Lossar in Spiti Valley. (300 km = 7 hours)

    – Enroute cross the might Rohtang La 13,050 ft. (52 km = 2 hours)

    – Post breakfast at Batal we stop at Kunzum La  15,060 ft. (75km = 3 hours)

    – Reach Losar post lunch. 

    – Check into our guest house for the night.

    – Rest of the evening at leisure.

  4. Day Four Tabo

    – Post breakfast, drive down to the village of Tabo. 106 km

    Enroute cross Chicham Kibber bridge  13,244 ft. (Asia’s highest bridge)

    – Visit the hill monastery Key Gompa.

    – Post lunch at Kaza drive to Tabo.

    Reach Tabo by tea time and check into our homestay.

    – Visit the 1000-year-old Tabo Monastery  

    – Hike to the meditation caves, wander through the arid village of Tabo.

  5. Day Five Langza

    – After breakfast, drive to the village of Dhankar. (28km = 40 minutes)

    – Visit the 1000 year old monastery.

    – Post lunch drive to the village of Komik (Highest village in the world) 22km drive.

    – Visit the village and the Monastery of Komik.

    – Enroute visit the village of Hikkim (Highest post office in the world)

    – Spend a night in our humble Spitian home stay in the fossil village Langza

  6. Day Six Chandartal

    – Post breakfast  head straight to the beautiful lake of Chandar Tal  

    – Cross the high altitude pass Kunzum La.

    – Reach Chandar Tal around noon and check into our campsite. 

    – Post lunch, hike to the beautiful Chandar Tal and return back around sun down.

    – Rest of the evening at leisure. 

  7. Day Seven Manali/New Delhi

    – Post breakfast, head back to the town of Manali.

    – Drive Past Kunzum La & Rhotang La.

    – Reach Manali by noon and check into our guest house in old Manali.

    – Board a HRTC  AC bus from Manali to New Delhi by 19:00 HRS.

  8. Day Eight New Delhi

    – Reach New Delhi by 09:00 HRS.

    – Book flight/train post 11:30 HRS

Essentials to carry

Stick to the list given below and you’ll have a smooth backpacking trip.

Travelling gear:

  • A rucksack of a minimum 60L.(mandatory{No other kind of bag will be allowed on the trip}
  • A day pack to move around with ease.(must have)
  • A camera with a minimum of 8GB, a spare battery s good to carry along.(optional)
  • Sleeping bag. (If camping is in the blueprint)
  • Carrying a one liter water bottle along is a great thing for every person who hits the road in the Himalayas.(must have)
  • A backpack rain cover.(optional)
  • Hiking Pole. (optional)

Clothing:

  • One cotton long sleeves and two short sleeve T-shirts or shirts. Avoid carrying new T-shirts as clothes get faded easily there.
  • Two short pants and two long pants. Cargo pants are favorable due to multiple pockets and their quick dry quality. Please avoid carrying jeans.
  • Four sets of undergarments and three sets of socks. Please avoid white socks.
  • One thick sweatshirt.(must have)
  • Gloves are optional and can be purchased there as well in case the need arises.(optional)
  • UV protected sun glares. (must have)
  • Cap
  • A half towel is preferred to a full size one as it saves on space in the bag pack.
  • A pair of shoes that are comfortable and have a good grip. Anklets are preferable.(must have)
  • Slippers or flip-flops.(must have)
  • Rain sheet.(can be purchased on the trip)

Personal:

  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, soap bars, shampoo sachets or small bottles of shampoo.
  • Toilet roll.(must have)
  • Paper soap, hand sanitizer, detergent soap sachets.
  • Sun screen with a minimum of 40 SPF, lip balm and cold cream should be carried along.(must have)
  • Body sprays are also good, but glass bottled perfumes are better kept at home.
  • Two thin bed-sheets.(optional)

Accessories:

  • Power board to charge multiple gadgets is a must as most lodging and boarding places have only one plug point.(must have)
  • A 3 meter nylon rope proves to be very handy as it can be used to dry clothes and to tie things along the way.(optional)
  • A LED torch and a box of candles along with a lighter is a safe carry along choice as the lights tend to go out rather often in the Himalayas.(must have)
  • Ten garbage bags to carry dirty clothes while travelling is good to have. These also help to junk the trash and keep the natural setting clean and green.(must have)
  • A small knife while on the road is a safety measure that is advised.(optional)
  • 10,000mah power bank. (Must have)

Medical:

  • Glucose powder.(must have)
  • Tablets for headaches, diarrhea, motion and altitude sickness.
  • Bandage.
  • Cotton.
  • Aspirin.
  • Medication for rashes.
  • Carrying at least 20 cold and throat relief lozenges proves to be a boon on the trip.(must have)
  • Sprain relief plasters.
  • Any personal medication that you have been advised by your doctor.(must have)

In Himachal Pradesh of North India.

Yes, Spiti is an extremely safe region of Himachal Pradesh.

The issues with China are an ongoing thing which is at the border where travellers are not allowed to go to. It’s the media who creates a mountain out of a molehill.

There is no cell phone coverage in Spiti Valley. Only BSNL postpaid connections work in Spiti Valley. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGKkanVvP2g

As of October 2017, Spiti Valley had only edge and edge plus (2G) in Tabo, Dhankar, and Kaza. So basically, WhatsApp works. BSNL has the best and is the only data provider in Spiti Valley

Only BSNL has cellular connection near Chandartal.

The trip starts at ISBT Kashmiri Gate New Delhi bus station.

Around 60 minutes prior to the departure of the bus is a good time to reach ISBT Kashmiri Gate.

-From the airport take a direct AC bus which leaves every 30 minutes. Good options if you want to avoid the metro rush.
-Take a shuttle bus to the airport metro and then an express metro to New Delhi and finally take the yellow line to Kashmiri Gate.  (Fastest way to reach ISBT)

Our tlow representative will meet you at Yolo camping (Parvati Valley) on the start point of the trip.

You won’t be alone, you’ll be with the rest of the group and our WhatsApp group which is made 36-40 hours before the start of the trip will be used as the platform to co-ordinate.

We will be using home stays and guest houses all along the trip.

Since no one in the world likes to keep their home untidy, it’s safe to say that every place we stay at will be clean and will give you a homely feel.

Yes, at every place we stay at you’ll get a blanket, a pillow and if not a bed then surely a mattress to sleep on.

Every guest house and home stay we stay at will have geysers so you’ll surely get to have a bath at least once a day.

It will be girls in a separate room and boys in a separate room, for all those backpacking solo.

Since this is a backpacking trip, we want to leave the eating for you’ll to explore on your own. You’ll never go hungry in Spiti Valley.

Not needed.  Every place we stay at will have either a cafe or a Spitian family who will cook for us.

In every town and village, you’ll get a variety of food options from pastas and to pizzas to choose from. There will also be home cooked meals in remote villages which the locals will prepare.

Yes, you can cook in our home stays. Provided you make the time.

The only way to avoid altitude sickness is to rest well, keep yourself hydrated and have plenty of water.

Constitution, your local physician is the best for motion sickness.

The oxygen is indeed very thin in Spiti Valley but if you remember to keep yourself hydrated with small sips of water, it should not bother you.

Yes, every town and village of Spiti Valley has a health centre.

Yes, it’s absolutely fine to enroll solo. All our trips have 70% solo travellers who enroll.

While in Spiti Valley we will be using a combination of HRTC volvo buses and a tempo  traveller (14 seater mini bus). ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Mandi: HRTC Volvo bus. Within Himachal: A 14 seater Tempo traveller.
