Here is The Land Of Wanderlust’s blueprint to the land of boulders, Hampi in the south Indian state of Karnataka. Explore the ruins of Hampi with a mix of cycling, hiking and walking.

  1. Day 1 Hampi
    • Reach Hostpet bus station by 9:00 HRS.
    • Hop onto a local bus from from Hostpet to reach Hampi by 10:00 HRS and check into guest house.
    • Ride the cycles and cross over to the other side of the Hampi River by motor boat.
    • Spend day riding the cycles and exploring the ruins on the other side of the Hampi river.
    • Return back to guest house near Hampi Bazaar by 16:00 HRS.
    • Spend the rest of the evening at leisure.
  2. Day 2 Hampi
    • After breakfast, cross over to the temple side of Hampi. 
    • Hire cycles and explore the ruins around the Royal centre.
    • Return back to Hampi and visit the famous Virupaksha temple.
    • Later, explore the temples on Hemakuta hill.
    • Spend the rest of the evening chilling in the Hampi Bazaar
  3. Day 3 Hampi
    • After breakfast, walk and explore the ruins around the sacred centre.
    • Explore Vittala temple that also houses the famous chariot.
    • Post lunch, return back to the guest house, pack up and head back to  Hospet to board your return train/bus by 16:00 HRS. 
Essentials to carry

 

Travelling gear:

  • A rucksack of a minimum 50 litres.(Must have)
  • A daypack to move around with ease.(Must have)
  • A camera with a minimum of 8GB.(Optional)
  • Carrying a one litre water bottle along is a great thing for every person who hits the road.(Must have)
  • A backpack rain cover.

Clothing:

  • Two or Three  short sleeve cotton T-shirts or shirts.
  • One short pants and one long pant. Cargo pants are favorable due to multiple pockets and their quick dry quality. Please avoid carrying jeans.
  • Sweatshirt. (during the winters)
  • Three sets of undergarments and three sets of socks. Please avoid white socks.
  • UV protected sun glares are a must.(Must have)
  • Cap.(Must have)
  • A thin towel is preferred to a thick one as it saves on space in the bag pack.
  • A pair of shoes that are comfortable and have a good grip. Anklets are preferable.
  • Slippers or flip-flops. (Must have)
  • Rain sheet. (If you’re travelling during the monsoon)

Personal:

  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, soap bars, shampoo sachets or small bottles of shampoo.
  • Toilet roll.(Must have)
  • Paper soap, hand sanitizer, detergent soap sachets.
  • Sun screen with a minimum of 40 SPF.(Must have)
  • Body sprays are also good, but glass bottled perfumes are better kept at home.
  • Mosquito repellent cream.
  • Two thin Bed-sheet.(Optional)

Accessories:

  • Power board to charge multiple gadgets is a must as most lodging and boarding places have only one plug point.
  • A LED torch is a good thing to carry along as the lights tend to go.(Must have)
  • Ten garbage bags to carry dirty clothes while travelling is good to have. These also help to junk the trash and keep the natural setting clean and green.(Must have)
  • A small knife while on the road is a safety measure that is advised.(Optional)
  • 10,000mah power bank. (Must have)

 Medical:

  • Glucose powder.(Must have)
  • Tablets for headaches, diarrhoea, motion and altitude sickness.
  • Bandage.
  • Cotton.
  • Aspirin.
  • Medication for rashes.
  • Sprain relief plasters.
  • Personal medication if any.

Hampi is located in the central part of Karnataka.

The trip starts at 9 A.M.

The best way to reach Hospet is by bus.

The meeting point is Hospet bus stand. Our TLOW representative will meet you at this point.

It’s is advisable to head to Hotel Shanbaug to freshen up. For breakfast, try Sai Tiffins right opposite Hotel Shanbaug. Sai Tiffins offers some really soft, fresh idlis throughout the day and hot or cold badam milk.

If you would like to wander and explore a little more than usual, inform your travel expert and keep them updated. If at all, you still get lost, wait at the entrance of the respective ruin or attraction you are visiting by asking a local. Try to check if you have network and leave an SMS if a call is not going through.

We will be using guest houses all along the trip.

Since no one in the world likes to keep their home untidy, it’s safe to say that every place we stay at will be clean and will give you a homely feel.

Yes, at every place we stay at you’ll get a blanket, a pillow and if not a bed then surely a mattress to sleep on.

Since this is a backpacking trip, we want to leave the eating for you’ll to explore on your own. You’ll never go hungry in Hampi.

Not needed.  Every place we stay at will have either a cafe or a family who will cook for us.

On both sides of Hampi, you’ll get a variety of food options from Indian cuisine, pastas to pizzas and Israeli food to choose from.

Carry Electral or Glucose – D to prevent dehydration. Coconut water is also widely available in Hampi.

Consulting your local physician is the best for motion sickness.
